Varsity Athletes Feted at Annual Banquet
Nearly 420 students, coaches, administrators, parents and guests gathered at the HBA Varsity Athletic Awards Banquet on Saturday, May 29.
The annual event, held for the fifth consecutive year at the Dole
Ballrooms, recognized all the HBA students who participated in varsity
sports the past year for either HBA or Pac-Five.
On hand for the event were Honolulu Advertiser sportswriters Wes Nakama,
Kyle Sakamoto and Stanley Lee. They came as invited guests of the
athletic department and were recognized for their contributions to and
coverage of high school sports. The final edition of the Honolulu
Advertiser
will be published on June 6, 2010.
In all, about 170 students were presented with certificates, letters,
pins and team awards.
The special award winners were:
Ken and Rosemond Street Sportsmanship
Male - In Sik Seo (Basketball)
Female - Laura Kurata (Tennis)
Athletes of the Year
Male - John Kagehiro (Football, Basketball, Baseball)
Co-Female - C'era Oliveira (Volleyball, Soccer, Track) , Sarah Palmer
(Volleyball)
Robert Fulford Scholar-Athletes
Male - Jason Kuniyoshi (Soccer)
Female - Jennifer Masutani (Tennis)
