The HBA boys and girls varsity bowling teams went to the Big Island last weekend and returned with several medals and awards. As they did a year ago, the bowlers traveled to the Big Island to compete in the Hilo Viking Invitational. This year’s event was held on August 18 at the Hilo Bowling Center.
The bowlers bowled in two 3-game sessions sandwiched around a 45-minute lunch break.
Medals were given to the top individual scores in each session. Trophies were given to the highest 3-game series in each session. And a trophy was given to the highest 6-game score for the overall event.
Junior Amanda Lac was the only HBA girl to earn a medal, but as a team, the girls bowled well. Four of them placed in the top-10 and HBA’s fifth position bowler placed thirteenth.
The boys made an impressive showing, coming away with multiple medals and trophies. Out of about 40 total bowlers, HBA boys finished in the top 18 places (1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 18).
Seniors Justin Joo and Collin Young finished in first and second place, respectively. They were followed by seniors Joel Matsuzaki in fifth place, Andrew Yamamoto in sixth place and senior Kyle Yoneshige in eighth place.
